The Katsina Local Government Council, under the leadership of its Chairman, Hon. Isah Miqdad, has launched a special scholarship scheme for 106 students to further their studies at Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic.

The event, held at the Entrepreneur Hall of the Polytechnic, was attended by the Governor of Katsina State, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, PhD, as the Special Guest of Honour.

In his address, Hon. Miqdad explained that the scholarship scheme was designed to ease the financial burden on parents struggling with tuition fees while investing in human capital development.

“This support is not just about academic certificates; it represents hope for families who feared losing access to education due to financial constraints. Today, their prayers have been answered,” he said.

He added that within just four months of his administration, over 1,367 residents have benefited from various initiatives covering healthcare, education, renewable energy training, and digital technology. These include:

  • 75 youths trained on solar power installation.
  • 96 students sponsored at the Katsina State Institute of Technology and Management (KSIMA).
  • 25,250 residents enrolled into the state’s free health insurance scheme.
  • 500 youths undergoing training in cybersecurity and computer programming (Python).

Chairman of the Katsina State Scholarship Board, Dr. Aminu Salisu Tsauri, who delivered a goodwill message, described the initiative as a “visionary step” that aligns with the state government’s education priorities.

“This remarkable achievement by Hon. Isah Miqdad reflects his genuine commitment to education as the foundation for progress. On behalf of the board, we commend this effort and pray for continued success in leadership,” Dr. Tsauri said.

He further praised Governor Radda’s investment in education, noting that the state has approved over ₦2.3 billion for scholarships and allowances, benefiting more than 174,000 students across Katsina. He also highlighted special interventions such as support for people with disabilities, awards for outstanding students, and foreign scholarships in modern fields like artificial intelligence, bioengineering, and medicine.

In his remarks, Governor Radda commended the Katsina Local Government for complementing his administration’s vision of prioritising human development.

“What I have witnessed here today is truly commendable. Investing in education and self-reliance is the most effective way to transform the lives of our youths,” he said.

The governor urged the beneficiaries to remain committed to their studies and serve as worthy ambassadors of the scheme, stressing that the opportunity comes with responsibility.

The event was attended by parents, community leaders, students, and dignitaries, who described the scholarship initiative as a major milestone in empowering young people in Katsina Local Government.
